Furnitureland South to Provide
Aid and Support to Katrina Victims

Furnitureland South, the world's largest home furnishings showplace, will
provide a financial contribution and host a community wide blood drive to aid
the many victims of Katrina, one of the most devastating hurricanes in recent
memory.
Furnitureland South called an emergency meeting of some of its
management team last week to determine how the world’s largest home furnishings
retailer could provide support to the many victims of Katrina, one of the most
devastating hurricanes in recent memory. After careful consideration of several
opportunities, a decision was made by Furnitureland South to partner with the
American Red Cross, the nation's premier emergency response organization,
governed by volunteers and supported by community donations. A contact at the
local Red Cross chapter stated emphatically that monetary and blood donations
are the most effective contributions. She went on to state that financial
contributions and blood enable the Red Cross to support the greatest needs in
the most efficient manner. Cash can be used to purchase items in adjacent,
staging areas and eliminate the added costs involved in transporting goods.
Immediately after the emergency meeting had adjourned, employees began
organizing a series of fundraising events, as well as a community-wide blood
drive, to assist the American Red Cross and the victims of hurricane Katrina and
the devastation that it caused. The employees at the company are always willing
and eager to donate their time and talent to special internal fundraisers that
consistently prove rewarding and successful. Employing more than 750,
Furnitureland South is considered a large Triad employer and one who has
generously donated tens of thousands of dollars and equally as much furniture
and supplies to organizations such as the Victory Junction Gang Camp, Santa for
Seniors, Habitat for Humanity and The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Jason Harris, Executive Vice president of Furnitureland South. “Hurricane
Katrina has brought devastation to the Gulf Coast Region, and millions are
crying out for help. Our company and employees want to do our part to help
answer this call and we are honored to add the American Red Cross to our list of
charitable organizations.”
Efforts are underway to prepare for the logistics to stage the community blood
drive at the Furnitureland South campus located at 5635 Riverdale Drive, off
Business 85 in Jamestown, between High Point and Greensboro. If you would like
to provide a tax deductible donation, you can do so by mailing a check directly
to Furnitureland South, made payable to the American Red Cross. Announcements
for the date and time of the community blood drive will be forthcoming.

Furnitureland South was founded in 1969 as a small, family-owned business in
High Point, NC. Today, the company remains family run and has grown into a
“shopping destination,” with quality home furnishings, accessories, and rugs
from more than 400 manufacturers, displayed in one million square feet of

original site.
